Istikhira Ki Dua | Dua Istikhara | Proper Way to Consult Allah

We recite Dua Istikhira (Istikhara Ki Dua) to seek guidance from Allah Almighty. From Allahs knowledge and Allah powers.

Our prophet (peace be upon him) used to do Istikhara and he has advised his followers to follow the same practice. In various hadiths it has been narrated that our prophet (peace be upon him) taught his followers to follow this sunnah.

أَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْتَخِيرُكَ بِعِلْمِكَ وَأَسْتَقْدِرُكَ بِقُدْرَتِكَ، وَأَسْأَلُكَ مِنْ فَضْلِكَ الْعَظِيمِ، فَإِنَّكَ تَقْدِرُ وَلاَ أَقْدِرُ وَتَعْلَمُ وَلاَ أَعْلَمُ وَأَنْتَ عَلاَّمُ الْغُيُوبِ، اللَّهُمَّ إِنْ كُنْتَ تَعْلَمُ أَنَّ هَذَا الأَمْرَ‬ خَيْرٌ لِي فِي دِينِي وَمَعَاشِي وَعَاقِبَةِ أَمْرِي فَاقْدُرْهُ لِي وَيَسِّرْهُ لِي ثُمَّ بَارِكْ لِي فِيهِ، وَإِنْ كُنْتَ تَعْلَمُ أَنَّ هَذَا الأَمْرَ شَرٌّ لِي فِي دِينِي وَمَعَاشِي وَعَاقِبَةِ أَمْرِي فَاصْرِفْهُ عَنِّي وَاصْرِفْنِي عَنْهُ، وَاقْدُرْ لِي الْخَيْرَ حَيْثُ كَانَ ثُمَّ أَرْضِنِي بِهِ

O Allah, I seek your knowledge
And I want strength from your power
And I ask your great grace.

Because you have the power, I don’t have the power.
You know, I don’t know.
Indeed, you know the things that are unseen.

Ya Allah, if You know that this work is better for me
for my religion, my worldly affairs, and for my hereafter
So make it easy for me
And provide your blessings in it

And if you know, this thing is bad for me for me
for my religion, for my worldly affairs
and for my hereafter

take this thing away from me and take me away from this thing
And provide me whatever is better for me
And please make me content with that

You should understand the idea behind the Istikhara. Unless you understand the meanings of Dua E Istikhara you will not get to the essence of Istikhara.

First and foremost, it is the practice taught by our beloved prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him). It is sunnah and we have to follow him. Whatever prophet says, it’s from Allah and for us.

You are seeking guidance in Dua E Istikhara from Almighty Allah. You are acknowledging that Allah has power and Allah has all knowledge. Allah can see what we cannot see, what is hidden and what has to come..

You are requesting Allah, if the decision you want to make is good for you in all aspects of life, you religion, your livelihood and life hereafter. Then Allah almighty, bless you and make it happen for you.

Then, you are begging Allah, if the decision at hand is bad for you in all aspects of life, your religion, your livelihood and life hereafter. Then Allah almighty, save you from this.

In the end, you are asking Allah help to provide you whatever is better for you

We have very little vision about life and we cannot comprehend each and everything in detail.

However, Allah has all the knowledge. Allah knows each and everything. Allah even knows what future is holding. Therefore, we entrust in Allah and want Allah (the most powerful and knowing-all) help.

We often have to make important decisions in our life. If you are confused about a situation in your life and you are not able to decide. In those difficult situations, you are not able to take a definite step and move forward.

Istikhara result comes in dream

Not necessary, if you read and understand the meaning of Dua Istikhara, it says you are seeking help from Allah’s knowledge. If a decision or thing is good for you make it happen. If it’s not good for you, Allah save you from that. And provide you better alternate.

Allah with his will, could stop it from happening if its not good. Sometimes it may go away, if its not good for you. May be, you have strong negative feeling about the thing after performing istikhara.

It could be, that have peace of mind and clear focus after performing Istikhara.

In the end, all matters and we ourselves, should revert to Allah and submit to his will. May Allah provide all of us the right direction to follow.

Our prophet (peace be upon him), when decided to do something he used to recite this short dua.

اللّٰهُمَّ خِرْ لِيْ وَاخْتَرْ لِي
