Lailat Ul Qadar | Shab E Qadar شب قدر | لیلۃ القدر is the night of great blessing. Allah says in Quran ‘ Lailat ul Qadr is better than 1000 months (in equivalence)’
Qadr Night is the holiest night in Islam. In this night Quran revealed on Prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him), therefore, it holds great significance.
The first verses of the Quran brought to prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him) by Angel Jibreel (Gabriel) in the night of Qadr.

اِنَّاۤ اَنۡزَلۡنٰهُ فِىۡ لَيۡلَةِ الۡقَدۡرِ
وَمَاۤ اَدۡرٰٮكَ مَا لَيۡلَةُ الۡقَدۡرِؕ
لَيۡلَةُ الۡقَدۡرِ ۙ خَيۡرٌ مِّنۡ اَلۡفِ شَهۡرٍؕ
تَنَزَّلُ الۡمَلٰٓئِكَةُ وَالرُّوۡحُ فِيۡهَا بِاِذۡنِ رَبِّهِمۡۚ مِّنۡ كُلِّ اَمۡرٍ
سَلٰمٌ هِىَ حَتّٰى مَطۡلَعِ الۡفَجۡرِ
Night of Qadr In English
In the Quran, Shab E Qadar is mentioned in Surah Al-Qadr (Chapter 97), where it is described as a night that is better than a thousand months:
“Indeed, We sent the Qur’an down during the Qadr Night (Night of Decree). And do you know what is the Night of Decree? The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months.
The angels and the Spirit descend therein by permission of their Lord for every matter. Peace it is until the emergence of dawn.” [Quran 97:1-5]

اور تم کیا جانو کہ شب قدر کیا ہے
شب قدر ہزار مہینوں سے زیادہ بہتر ہے
فرشتے اور روح اس میں اپنے رب کے حکم سے ہر حکم لے کے اترتے ہیں
وہ رات سراسرسلامتی ہے طلوع فجر تک
When Exactly Is Qadr Night?
Qadr Night occur during the last ten nights of the Islamic month of Ramadan.
“When the last ten nights of Ramadan came, the Prophet (SAW) would keep awake at night (for prayer and devotion), wake his family up, and tighten his waist belt.” [Sahih Bukhari]
You have to find it on the odd nights among the last ten nights of Ramadan. These are 21, 23rd, 25th, 27th and 29th night of Ramadan.
Importance of Night of Decree
In the Hadith, there are several narrations that highlight the importance and significance of Night of Decree. One famous Hadith from Sahih Bukhari describes the special blessings and rewards associated with worship during this night:
“Whoever stands (in prayer) during the Night of Power with faith and expecting reward (from Allah), he will be forgiven for his previous sins.” [Sahih Bukhari]
Another Hadith narrated by Aisha (RA) states that the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) would increase his worship during the last ten nights of Ramadan, seeking Qada Night:
The Prophet Muhammad (SAW) also warned that those who neglect Lailat ul Qadr are at a great loss. He said:
“Whoever is deprived of Lailat ul Qadr is deprived of all goodness. Indeed, he has been deprived of the greatest night of the year.” (Ibn Majah)
Overall, both the Quran and Hadith emphasize the importance and blessings associated with worship during Lailat ul Qadar, encouraging Muslims to seek out this special night and perform acts of devotion and worship during it.
What To Do On Night of Angels?
On Qadar Night, a Muslim should deeply engage in acts of worship and devotion to earn the blessings and rewards associated with this special night.
Below are some recommended ways to make the most of this powerful night:
Nafl prayers
You can offer Nafl prayers throughout the night, including Taraweeh and Tahajjud with sincere intention and focus.
Quran Recitation
You can recite the Quran throughout the night, with the intention of seeking blessings and rewards from Allah.
In addition to that, you should also reflect on the meaning and significance of the verses you recite, and try to understand what Quran exactly is saying. Since Quran was revealed in this night, it makes more sense to connect with Quran on this very night.
Making Dua
You should make sincere supplications (dua) to Allah, seeking forgiveness for your sins, guidance, and blessings. You can also pray for the well-being of your loved ones, the Ummah, and all of humanity.
Aisha (RA) reported that she asked the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) what dua she should recite on Lailat ul Qadr, and he advised her to recite:
“Allahumma innaka ‘afuwwun tuhibbul ‘afwa fa’fu ‘annee”
which means “O Allah, You are forgiving and You love forgiveness, so forgive me.”
Above all, do not forget to pray for your dead ones maghfarat, because they cannot earn any reward on their own.
Engage in Dhikr
You can also engage in the remembrance of Allah (dhikr) by reciting the various names of Allah, and by repeating phrases such as “La Ilaha IllAllah”, “SubhanAllah,” “Alhamdulillah,” and “Allahu Akbar.” This can be done individually or in a group.
And remeber the most Afzal Dhikr is “La Ilaha IllAllah”.
Perform acts of charity
You should also perform acts of charity and kindness on Lailat ul Qadar, such as feeding the poor, donating to charity, or help those in need.
Overall, the goal of these actions is to seek the blessings and rewards of Lailat ul Qadar by engaging in acts of worship, remembrance, and kindness. It is important to approach this night with sincerity and humility, and to strive to connect with Allah on a deeper level.
Benefits of Qadr Night
Following are the major benefits associated with Night of Decree:
Forgiveness of Sins
The Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said, “Whoever stands (in prayer) during the Night of Power with faith and seeking reward (from Allah), he will be forgiven for his previous sins.” (Sahih Bukhari)
Multiplications of Rewards
Night of Qadr is better than a thousand months, and any good deeds performed on this night are multiplied many times (even 1000 months rewards) over. This means that the rewards for even small acts of worship can be enormous.
Protection from Jahannum (Hellfire)
In a Hadith narrated by Abu Hurairah (RA), the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said, “Whoever stays up (in prayer and remembrance of Allah) on the Night of Qadr fully believing (in Allah’s promise of reward for that night) and hoping to seek reward (from Allah alone and not to show off), he shall be forgiven for his past sins.
Whoever prays during the night of Qadr with faith and hoping for its reward will have all of his previous sins forgiven.” (Sahih Bukhari)
Allah’s Blessings and Mercy
Allah says in Quran “This night is peace until the morning prayers”, that surely means if you keep yourself busy in worship with dedication, Allah will bless you with his mercy and blessings.
Angels On Earth
Allah also says in same Qadr Verse that on Lailatul Qadr, the angels descend to the earth, and the night is filled with their presence and blessings. They bring Allah’s decisions and orders for every matter of life and death.
Therefore, if you want your problems to be solved, your issues to be settled, you should seek Allah’s mercy because this night is night of power and night of decisions.
When Angels report back to Allah that they found you busy in worship and your dedication on this night, you surely will be rewarded with forgiveness of sins and peace in life.
